For Adults: Baptism or Confirmation
For adults who are part of our church community, Baptism or Confirmation are meaningful ways to publicly affirm your faith.
Believers Baptism
- For those who have come to personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
- A public declaration of your faith and commitment to follow Jesus.
- Symbolises forgiveness of sins and new life in Christ (Acts 22:16; Titus 3:5).
- Signifies joining the family of believers, the Church (1 Corinthians 12:13).
Confirmation
- For those previously baptised (as an infant or adult) who wish to make a public, personal affirmation of their faith and commitment to Christ.
- Includes prayer for the strengthening gift of the Holy Spirit.
- Signifies joining the family of believers, the Church as a active member.
For Infants: Options for Families
God does not have grand-children. Each person becomes God’s child through personal faith.
We find both adult baptism and infant baptism align with the bible but encourage families to consider the benefits for your child to experience baptism when they are old enough to understand new life in Christ themselves (14+). It can be a powerful step in their own faith journey.
Consider a dedication or thanksgiving service as a beautiful and meaningful expression of faith and commitment.
The baptism and dedication services not only express commitment to Jesus and church unity. Parents must be regularly involved in our Church community.
Infant Baptisms & Dedications
Parents must be regularly connected in the Church community
The language of the bible is that baptism and dedications are conducted by a believer or leader in the Church. It is more than a personal experience or family commitment, it an expression of community and unity.
Church is a family that you belong to, not a club that you become a member of. If you have not experienced being part of a healthy Church community, we would love to go on that journey with you.
- Try a Sunday service
- Attend a “Belong” event to meet our leadership and hear how you can better belong to the family.
- Symbolism: Water is used as a symbol of cleansing from sin and new life in Christ.
- The Church: The language of the bible is that baptism is done to you by a believer in the Church. It’s a symbol of community.
- Salvation: Baptism does not bring salvation. Salvation is by grace through personal faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Dedication
- Symbolism: The child is prayed for by a leader who lays a hand on their head, a symbol of unity and God’s love.
- The Church: The community commit to pointing the child’s heart to Jesus.
- Salvation: We pray that the child might come to know Jesus and in time find personal faith in him.
Naming / Thanksgiving
The naming service is the only one not held during a Sunday service. We have limited resources to run these services but if available, they are a dedicated service on Saturday for you and your family.
Like the Christening tradition, this service declares the name of the child and gives thanks.
- A special service for you and your family usually on a Saturday
- Prayers thanking God for the life of the child.
- Prayers for the parents and the family.
The best thing you can do for your child is connect back into a healthy Church.
Church community partners with you in pointing your child to Jesus, models your hearts priorities to your child and shines light into your life and others.
